Starting a business is hard work. If you are looking for a resource in the Las Vegas community to give you a helping hand, stop by the UNLV Startup Center.
The UNLV Startup Center aims to provide guidance to entrepreneurs who are contemplating the formation of new businesses by offering practical and accessible information. Their team can help you through the legal, regulatory, and business landscape.
“The UNLV Startup Center is a free resource for on- and off-campus entrepreneurs, founders, startups and small businesses offering advice and counseling on starting or growing a business,” said Justin McVay, Director of UNLV Startup Center. “The Center hosts experts, mentors and workshops to give the entrepreneur specialized business assistance that can help them launch or scale.”
As a member of the Nevada Small Business Development Center network funded by a grant through the U.S. Small Business Administration, the UNLV Startup Center is able to offer free business assistance and host workshops and events to give startups and small businesses resources to help them succeed. Whether the need is navigating the hurdles of business formation, researching the market and customer engagement, or finding new avenues for access to capital, the UNLV Startup Center can help the entrepreneur navigate the waters of starting and building a business.
When asked how #VegasTech startups can get involved with the UNLV Startup Center, McVay replies with an enthusiastic, “Just ask!”
“Whether an entrepreneur in the #VegasTech community is in need of business advice or assistance, or simply wants to get involved in other ways, like leading workshops or becoming a mentor, we’d love to hear from them!” he says. “Resources that may be of particular interest to founders are one-on-one counseling sessions through the business startup and formation process, attending workshops with other entrepreneurs on specific topics or industries, or tapping into the vast university resources at UNLV including students, interns, researchers, co-working space, and more.”
What can the community expect to see next from the UNLV Startup Center?
“While 2013 was spent getting our Center set up and running, 2014 is really about getting our services known, scaling our services, and really being additive to the startup ecosystem,” McVay said. “Our goals really surround business formations, job creation and capital infusion – that is helping startups form, get capital to grow and hire workers as they grow. While our numbers in these areas were great for 2013, we only expect to assist more entrepreneurs and startups this year in these and other areas of business.”
